The darkness consumes my pleas.
My only remaining comfort is my collared neck.
Weeks since I’ve witnessed my bipedal family.
The longer I wait the more my sorrow grows,
the deeper a longing seeps into my soul.
Soon the void will take me to an unwanted slumber.
Footfalls echo in the dark, a shocked shrill voice calls my name.
I use my remaining strength to call out.
a small sigh escapes my lips, carrying me to safety.
Light breaks through my coffin of darkness.
Patchy baldness covers my one fur laden body,
they believe I’m sick so they stay away.
I can’t go without a goodbye, they will hurt more than I.
A hand rubs on my head, a soothing voice speaks my name.
My lonely coffin is overwhelmed with a warm light.
