The Curious Case of The Tevashiri

My journey to Siradin was a fairly safe one. Its close proximity to Khalash led to the roads being fairly well patrolled.

In order to find the home of the Tevashiri I had to go through a large fort that was made to block in the volatile magic of their home region. I had to go through a quick screening process and all magic items that ranked higher than a tier 3 on the Mago Scale had to be left in the fort for fear of them getting out of control in the area.

As I left the fort to find a nearby village I could feel the magic in the air. It felt tangible and in some locations heavy enough that it was hard to breathe.  But that’s all besides the point. The strangeness of the area wasn’t what was important to me currently.

I followed the main road to what seemed to be one of the only towns in the entire valley. I began to look around for someone to talk to while I took in the sights of the village and some of its inhabitants. The majority of the people seemed to be human or of the other races of Erasure, not many of the Tevashiri seemed to be about here. It almost felt like this town was some form of tourist location.

After a while I found the town hall. I was able to sit down with someone called the “Elder”. From what I had gathered, this Elder spoke for the Tevashiri. He was their representative for the outside world. He seemed to look mostly human, though there was a strange shimmer around his body. It could have been some form of illusion. I asked him about the Tevashiri and he devolved into a long rambling rant about some old story. It seemed to resemble the one about the Hero-King Senny of Onirose. After a while I snapped him out of his talking and got the real details from him.

The Tevashiri have an almost infinite number of forms. A few people have attempted to catalog them but the vast amount of information is so overwhelming they just stop doing it for some reason or another.

The forms that the Tevashiri take are dictated by the types of magic that they are born around or their parents descend from. This all mostly comes from the different sections of Siradin being infused with different types of magic.

This has also led to a divide in the groups of Siradin. Much like in the North of the valley are a group of sentient Myconids. While in others most just hid away keeping in touch with their magical routes and never leaving their homes. Those that have never tend to return and are highly sought after for their magical properties.

The Tevashiri are more or less made entirely of magic. This has led to the few that wanted to study casting being some of the best casters in the world. Being that they suffer from none of the ill effects of harboring magic in their bodies for an extended period of time. It also seems as if there are a few rare cases where a Tevashiri could expand their own body to cast spells if they didn’t have enough magic stored.

As I was getting ready to leave from the Elders office he gave me a document containing the most common types of Tevashiri. There are Sprites, a name for what the majority of people would call fairies, pixies and gnomes. They are smaller in stature while still looking like humans and some of them can even fly. Elementals generally don’t have a human form. Their bodies are made up of the magic from their environments. Their bodies are made from different types of elements and are usually just made up of one of them. Though they are not to be confused with Khadijians, who were transformed to their current state and not born to it. Boggarts, who tend to be more dangerous than others are born from more aggressive forms of magic. Things like necromancy and summoning magic that links to planes that hold nothing but despair and madness for their visitors. They generally have more mind boggling forms, They changin their faces and voices to get their prey, and gazing upon their true visage could drive one mad.

The final overarching version didn’t have a name labeled for it. Though it seemed that it just encompassed every other version of Tevashiri. Those who weren’t made from dangerous magic, those who stayed a normal size and those who just looked overall, , , Human. They might have some weird effects about them or looks to them but generally they are human or humanoid in shape and style.

I thanked the Elder for his time and the document and went back to the fort to gather my effects. One of the last groups I would have to visit on Torospeas was also nearby. The Tukslag. They made their homes in the deserts just north of the Khalashiri Mountain Range. I would just have to get some supplies for my long trek under the hot sun.
